Switch illuminator / locator
Only suitable for use with standard light bulbs, halogen bulbs or eco halogen bulbs
This useful accessory provides illumination to any 1 gang switch or faceplace.
The switch illuminator wires into the existing light switch along with the current lighting cables. A gentle green glow is then emitted from behind the switch.
The light is not obvious in the daylight, but once the room is darkened the switch stands out clearly.

A little bigger than the box, light is not evenly distributed

The overall size of this is a little bigger than the pattress box, so it will be protruding out from all 4 sides.
The light guide is not very well done, just a simple tube to hold the light without any reflective mirror/part to make the light distribute evenly. As seen in the photo above, the right side is much brighter than the left.

A brilliant product, I have one of those annoying light switches that is in the middle of a room wall, but with this simple device I have eradicated all those groping grubby fingerprints that used to surround the light switch.
Now it is easily visible in the dark, in fact I'm so impressed I will be fitting the switch locator in every room of the house.

Neon switches

I started looking for a similar product that I saw first on a trip to Norway where a pal had installed light switches all through his house with a really cool blue neon light strip around the edges to help find them in the dark. They call them 'Elko Plus' over there (check out http://www.elko.no/)
But I couldn't find the exact same here in England but this product is a pretty cool replacement and does the job. I was very impressed with them and they do indeed work very well. The green glow is not overpowering.
My only criticism would be that the screws they come with could be a touch longer. By using this switch illuminator you are raising the switch housing away from the wall so obviously you will need longer electrical screws. Luckily I had some longer ones spare which I used. Also would like to see other colours too. Green is nice but blue is cool.
All in all, brilliant product.

I searched for and bought this product after redecorating my hallway and stairs simply because I didnt want anyone feeling along the newly emulsioned walls and leaving fingermarks.
However I think this product is more important and invaluable to the elderly or infirm as it does as it was designed to do, namely identifying the position of a light switch in a darkened room.
Last Christmas an elderly relative staying with us could not find our light switch and believing we did not have one, descended the stairs in the dark, he fell at the last step believing he had reached the bottom and luckily came to no harm.
I cannot believe how hard it was to locate this product especially as I now realise it is suppled by a top distributer as MK.
As an engineering technician I do a lot of locating and buying parts. I tried the obvious local suppliers such as AA/Jones Electrical, Hull Lighting, Bonus Electrical, B&Q and Screwfix. Only one of them knew of this product but did not know where to get it and advised me to try the internet.
This simple product is easy to fit and must be the best kept secret in the electrical sector, the inventor should have taken it to "The Dragons Den" as I am sure it needed better promoting as a product, personally I am delighted with the result.
